My @torontostar column: aviation is all about preparation, so it’s weird that proponents of expanding the island airport are trying to fly a plan on hype, rather than a real business case.

Lacking data and detail, this proposal just isn’t ready for takeoff. https://www.thestar.com/opinion/contributors/how-the-numbers-undermine-doug-fords-flight-of-fancy-on-billy-bishop-and-jets/article_7c511099-f25d-4158-99ff-d23aa42e9c89.html

Matt Elliott: How the numbers undermine Doug Ford’s flight of fancy on Billy Bishop and jets

There are reasons to be skeptical of the Billy Bishop proposal, based on what we do know about the economic reality of the island airport.

Toronto Star
@torontostar @GraphicMatt that has never stopped Ford from doing something.

@GraphicMatt Interesting piece with lots of new info for me. I didn't know about some of the struggles the island airport has had, nor about the report done for Air Canada highlighting additional challenges.

I mean, it won't be surprising if Ford hasn't bothered to do research or real consultation with anyone other than a couple friends or lobbyists, but I still kinda assumed that he was at least responding to some surging demand or something that would make real business sense to someone.
