Kerbside dry mixed recycling temporarily suspended in Central Bedfordshire following fire at Bletchley waste site - Feddit UK

The dry mixed recycling collected from residents’ homes is normally taken to the site in Bletchley, where it is bulked before being transported on to a separate treatment facility. As the Waste Transfer Station is currently unavailable, this is disrupting the council’s kerbside dry recycling collection service. The council is working closely with its contractor to put alternative Waste Transfer arrangements in place as a matter of urgency in order to minimise disruption. Residents are being asked to continue putting their dry recycling bin out for collection as usual, as collections will recommence as soon as possible. General waste, food waste and garden waste collections are continuing as normal and residents can continue to use bottle banks for glass recycling. Household Waste Recycling Centres are also operating as normal. However, if possible, residents are asked to store bulky waste items at home rather than take them to Household Waste Recycling Centres while this disruption continues. Councillor Wye, our Executive Member for Sustainability and Climate Resilience said: > We know residents will be concerned by this disruption and we are sorry for the inconvenience it will cause. Following the fire at the Waste Transfer Station in Bletchley, we are working urgently with our contractor to put alternative arrangements in place and restore kerbside dry mixed recycling collections as soon as possible. > > > We will keep residents updated through our website and social media channels as soon as more detail becomes available. Central Bedfordshire Council will also be sharing updates across their social media channels.
