Sven Peter@ljs best setup imho is an office that’s not the open floor hell in walking distance. That’s one of the things keeping me at my current job even though I’m annoyed about a bunch of other things
@sven it's amazing how pretty much every fucking office in the world has converged on the open floor hell though, what enlightened people must be at your office to not do that!
It's not exactly great if you have ADHD either that.
I feel I need changes of scenery, but cafes are not exactly brilliant, and I have also got far too used to my pretty-much-ideal setup at home :)
@ljs yeah, open floor is the absolute worst. I have no colleagues working in the same business unit in the office I‘m assigned to but I still enjoy getting out of my flat and talking to them every now and then. Not sure I could work in cafes on just my tiny laptop screen
@sven ideally I'd like to be co-located with other mm people, but geography makes that impossible :)
Maybe one day I'll end up in Czechia to remedy that
@ljs oh yeah, a decent office where other co workers are would be the dream :)
@sven unfortunately every single real office experience I've had has been:
1. WAY less productive than WFH due to constant distractions
2. Shit equipment, companies always go cheap on this which is totally stupid
3. Involving a horrible VERY expensive commute that's constantly broken
Overall resulting in far less productivity and far greater likelihood of me quitting.
Of course actually being smart about this would involve a degree of actually giving a shit that most middle managers entirely lack
