Brendel + James Levine, 1997, Emperor: absolutely reasonable tempo, no irrational fleeing from random percussion instruments.
So far:
Brendel + Schubert == best ever.
Brendel + Mozart == hot damn, let's have an Uchida-off.
Brendel + Beethoven == wouldn’t kick him out of bed for eating crackers, but not competitive with Serkin or several others.
