Is it true that "bawang" means onion everywhere in SEA but it means garlic in the Philippines?? What is wrong with us 😭 🤣

@teacherbuknoy In malais, bawang is onion, but too be fair, bawang putih (white onion) actually means garlic… so not that far off.

One question, what does seguro means in tagalog?

@dams @teacherbuknoy Siguro is a paradox, because it is used as in the term "surely" as in "Surely you mean this and that". But in some usage when posed as a question it also means "Maybe".

@pixiecata @dams To add, "seguro" with an E also means "insurance" in Tagalog, but it came from Spanish.

@pixiecata @teacherbuknoy Ok, i remembered something like that.
Seguro meaning for sure in spanish, suddenly meaning maybe :-)

So probably, you have quite a few … unexpected, meaning of words going on.

@dams @pixiecata Spanish is like "I'm sure" and Tagalog is like "are you???" 🤣
@dams @teacherbuknoy It became maybe because the usage came from "Are you sure?"
