So, I stumbled on some old school Markov chain bots, that are following one another? It's really obvious. I found them, because one boosted one of my jokes that wasn't funny.

Anyone wanna suggest a reason why? I'm kind of at a loss. The best I can come up with is an attempt at poisoning LLM training data. I can't come up with a reason that would have any benefit to the bot owner, other than trying to create a fake engagement bot farm? But like it's mastodon, what good is that?

...aaaaand the bot transitioned to posting 10 news stories an hour, with no links, just images.

Can't seem to figure out what narrative it is trying to push. Maybe it is for hire?

So, I think basically it did markov chain posts and boosts to avoid some kind of automatic detection, while showing it actually posts stuff... then it transitioned to spamming news blurbs based on what it was paid for.
