Weirdly my kid didn’t seem interested in discussing how there’s no such thing as “free” in consumer culture and how supposed incentives are really intended to raise the costs of even a one-off switch to a different vendor… mid-meltdown about considering stopping at a different grocery store for the milk and yogurt we needed rather than the one where kids can get a free cookie at the bakery counter while shopping with adults. 🤔
monstreline@cassey pity the person who encourages me to join a retailer’s loyalty program…periodically it turns into my sad rant about how loyalty programs are funded by raising core prices for everyone on the assumption that people are dumb enough to believe that they haven’t already paid many times over for their free reward. If they accept my no, it’s fine. If they push, my rant reveals itself.
@cassey your kids will get it eventually and they’ll be grateful to you for that early foundational learning
