i've just seen a record string of eleven (11!) image posts roll by on my timeline, all without ALT text

if you're new to the fediverse, please know that ALT text is considered "de rigueur" -- not just for people with sight issues, but even more importantly, to provide context by describing where the image was taken, what the important components of the image mean, and to provide the actual text text, if the image happens to have nothing in it but colourful text

please, always write ALT text, try to make it meaningful, and your followers will be grateful

oh, and please also note that many people will NOT boost your image without ALT text

Also, there should be a standard proposed ('altt' field in the PNG, GIF, JPG formats perhaps??) to store the text so that it stays with the image after its conception.
