aliceitcThatās (almost) how it works in Italy. Mostly it works like this, if the maximum sentence for a certain crime is X years, if you are not sentenced after X years (if X is less than 6 years, then use 6 years) you are no longer triable.
Unless the maximum sentence for the crime is a life sentence, in which case, you are always triable.
And of course it is a bit more complicated, as there are certain rules on āwhen the clock starts tickingā, and āwhen the clock stops tickingā and āwhen the clock is paused for a bitā.
Which in my opinion is fair, although there were some people that abused the system to try to avoid a sentence, which is bad, but I think that in general a few bad people exploiting a good rule doesnāt mean the rule must be removed. If anything we should change the rule a bit to prevent such exploits.
