I have never gotten, nor will I ever understand, why people start smoking.

Once you are hooked, yeah, sure. I can understand it. But why even start?

I've been told it tastes vile. It's known just how bad it is.

@jan I was tempted to do it once when the stress was really a lot, but I was too good at math & statistics to know it wasn't worth it.
@jan you have no clue how often my daughters get asked, pushed and pressured by their school environment. It should be made a criminal offence to offer a non-smoker a cigarette

@jan when everyone around you smokes, it feels kind of normal.

When there was smoking in bars here many years ago, you were going to be around it & smell like it, so that became less of a deterrent.

Plus the young-and-stupid rebellion factor.

@bomkatt @jan we both grew up in the smoking in bars, restaurants, and anywhere era.

I hated coming back from hanging out with friends and having to toss everything into the laundry & wash or wet brush my hair to get the stink out. Oh, and scrub my skin too. Ugh. Do not miss.

@jan I grew up in a house full of smoke, the car was full of smoke, family visits.. smoke... Working with smoking colleagues... On holiday in the "non-smoking section of an airplane.. as if the smoke in the smoking section didn't spill all over 🀒
I never started as I couldn't stand the smell and I knew it was a health hazard. I'm happy I never started.
Our son hates smoke too.πŸ‘
