fopsbought a rear view mirror for my car today to do the stuff ive been wanting to
also stumbled upon people mounting radar detector displays behind the mirror glass and i might have to rethink my stats display idea (there is another very convenient CAN tap point like right above the mirror)
and now i really want to just put a giant oled behind it. and it also would be super cool to display like park sensor distance readings because like Im Already looking through the mirror when parking
originally i just wanted to put a little character LCD like instead of the ashtray insert thing and get to the can bus from behind the ac control panel but this would be so much cooler. and i could display fault messages the exact same way an idrive screen would show them (found a pdf with all of the exact messages lol)
i also want to find the firmware files for a ccc (top spec head unit) and hopefully extract stuff like the fonts and icons and stuff maybe? thatd be really cool

okay so i got the mirror and i fought it for a while trying to get it open, finally did and turns out the mirror glass like really doesnt want to let light through 
i would need like a stupidly bright lcd or prefferably even oled or something. i cant even like get at the mirror metal coating bc its in between the two panes of glass sandwiched together and im not digging in there bc its like one big lcd segment lmao
im guessing the versions with the compass have a lighter coating or sth because those projects with the radar detectors i saw looked pretty good. either that or they use stupidly bright leds for the compass
if you had the option youd get a homelink thingy with three buttons inside the mirror and i'll do something similar just way simpler lol
i have a little board from like a smart outlet/dimmer/whatever remote that was shaped like a wall mounted light switch so the layout is a bit more relaxed, it has an attiny2313 and a cc1150 and im thinking i can just use that and program it manually loll
