*shrugs*

The love of my life is convinced this is the end of the Pig Empire. That we've sustained a lethal injury along the artery (the one what pumps oil, not blood) and this all just dinosaur thrashing now.

I'm not inclined to believe him yet, but not because I don't think A) we deserve it, and B) it would be better for the species - but simply because I don't think we're that lucky. Americans will not get a dignified stroll into the shadows like the British did. This has to play out now.

I will not miss "the West." The only really sad thing here is that, potentially, now fuckhole grindset chuclkebro dipshits will finally have a point when they say "you should teach your kids Mandarin."

@AnarchoNinaWrites

Already did one kid. She'll no doubt encourage any grandkids.

@AnarchoNinaWrites

The strongmen dipshits really like to bow down and bend the knee, don't they. Fascist in office, party leader - it doesn't really matter, does it.

@AnarchoNinaWrites The return of Firefly is a bellwether. We'll all adopt Mandarin slang but problematic white people will still be centered somehow.
@AnarchoNinaWrites only thing that kinda makes me sad is that the beautiful idea of multiracial democracy is about to be put to sleep for good. “We tried that and it doesn’t work” turned out to be correct.

@AnarchoNinaWrites

If all else fails, there still is hope the fossils and their minions are shooting themselves so badly into their own foot that folks will finally be willing to accept a few glaring facts instead of explaining everything away as usual.

Downside to it? Well... If they shy away again, then we can be pretty confident that they will look the other way no matter what. Totally a possibility. Like Germans not rising up even though their cities got bombed to rubble at the end of WW2.

@AnarchoNinaWrites It's not going to go peacefully that's for sure. Dying feral creatures rarely do.
@AnarchoNinaWrites fwiw I think that's a matter of perspective. I think I'm a little more like you, but I can understand your partner's perspective too. My bf said WWIII had begun with operation al aqsa flood. My thoughts are more in line with it having begun in earnest with the war in Iran that is now spilling out of control to directly involve, probably soon, everyone. There may be some who will not count it until bombs are falling in dozens of nations not confined just to one region (in this case West Asia). It's like, where does your intuition place the line between a cold war and a hot war? When does hostile diplomacy and spycraft become a war in earnest, not just conflicting interests? I think we are seeing the same things play out, but just have a more or less conservative notion about what constitutes a hot war. I think about this a lot.
@AnarchoNinaWrites I think it is over, but I think it's gonna fall more like the Romans than the British. It's going to be brutal. It's going to be long. If you can, get out now. If you can't, keep your head down or fight hard to be part of the rebuilding. Something better might re-emerge in its place, but not without effort and sacrifice.
@AnarchoNinaWrites "Dignified"? The British Empire's decay? ROFL
@Illuminatus I just meant that other people are going to gut us in the streets in a way that was not possible when the British Empire dissolved (mostly because we, Americans, protected them from the people they'd put under the boot and took over their colonial projects. There is no America, to save fallen empire Americans, this time. You feel me?)
@AnarchoNinaWrites Oh, yes, pretty much. That makes sense: any US company vizier for a multinational better start getting some good insurance, bodyguards or repatriate.
@AnarchoNinaWrites However, I must say that the refugees started fleeing the inside already: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSzRkWrUiHQ
