Whenever I hear people talking about how horrible Slack, Discord and other modern chat platforms, someone will inevitably say, "I miss IRC..."

I can't help but tell them, "It didn't go anywhere!"

The OG decentralized chat network has been here all along, since 1988, still with many different independent networks to choose from, plenty of users and none of the headaches that come with today's monopolistic, monolithic platforms.

@jordan you don't have to convince me about IRC being awesome, but the first thing these people will say is "what do you mean I can't see what happened while I wasn't online?"
@r0k Well those people don't know about irssi+screen then ;)
@jordan as I'm sure you know, that extends their being online, not allows them to see what happened while they were offline
@r0k If they're online, their scrollback buffer holds what happened when they were "offline" (to which they never truly are).
