I've used Claude Code to help me resurrect a broken NorthStar Advantage computer and then could not stop https://netzhansa.com/debugging-northstar-advantage/ #retrocomputing #cpm #z80 #pacman
Resurrecting a NorthStar Advantage computer | netzhansa

@hanshuebner this is the article that let me most conflicted about LLM coding assistants value proposition. Usually I find these things worthless and the results sub par. But Damn…. 🤯 amazing writeup
@hanshuebner a knife is as good a tool, as the hand that leads it, I suppose.
@Nfoonf I'm also conflicted and most LLM use cases are crap, but in my field of work, they can do things that really amaze me.
@hanshuebner your job is probably safe from LLM deskilling, I can go back to building sites putting cables in walls, if they still want me for that. But the rest is probably toast.

@hanshuebner

Lol, I hate that Claude can do that. But it's impressive.

Hard sector floppies: has anyone ever tried making a PLL that generates the missing pulses, from the single sector hole? Given the narrow range of rotation (precision) accuracy would probably rival hardware.

@tomjennings A PLL would probably be difficult, or you'd need to use 2 - One for the 10 sector index holes and one for the track start index hole, which sits between two of the others. Using another Pi Pico would likely be easier, good idea!
@hanshuebner Ping @mmu_man it would be a nice talk at the next FOSDEM in the retrocomputing devroom.
