scoffs imagine caring about the quality of your software 🙄

can you imagine what that would do to our productivity???
@lumi A manager at Amazon once lectured my team about trying to do things the right way, and how that wasn't what we were being paid to prioritize.
@reflex saying the quiet part out loud

though i guess it's not that quiet, seeing the state of the whole industry

@lumi No kidding. I didn't realize how bad things were going to get, that was early 2019 and I left Amazon in September that year.

That manager was notorious about lying to candidates to get them to join the team, the result is he got top talent and then was frustrated that they'd focus on doing good work *despite* being lied to about the things they'd be working on.

@reflex @lumi So, What were you being paid to prioritize in their estimation? Did they explicitly say it was whatever pointless metric they preferred, or just churning out features functional or not?

@theeclecticdyslexic @lumi The latter. Functional mattered. Maintainable? Not so much.

Which is why the shift to AI coding and systems management and the ensuing disasters in no way surprised me.

@reflex @lumi "So what I'm hearing, boss, is that I don't actually have a job, but have accidentally joined a maoist conspiracy to destroy America? Well, this is embarrassing."
