Im Byzantinischen Museum von Argos finden sich Mosaike, Ikonen und Steinfragmente aus Kirchen der Spätantike und des Mittelalters. Das Museum ist in einem ehemaligen Karmelitinnenkloster untergebracht, dessen Räume eine ruhige, fast klösterliche Atmosphäre tragen. Zwischen Geschichte und Handwerk entsteht hier ein feines Bild byzantinischer Alltagskultur.

A little correction: the building complex which hosts the Byzantine Museum, was constructed as hospital by Sisters of Mercy (in 1690), which got severely damaged during Greek Independence and got reconstructed as cavalry barracks by Kapodistrias (1828).

Today, since 2023, works have began in the eastern wing to host the new Epigraphic Museum of Argos, which will feature various inscriptions that have been discovered during the various excavations in Argos city.

Thank you very much for pointing that out. I was obviously so captivated by the exhibition that I didn’t pay enough attention to the building itself.
