I think what I found interesting from the Klemko article is the lack of oversight. Only 5-10% of training courses are certified by any national body with also only one state requiring certification. If nobody is even watching these trainers and what they are teaching, then how can we be surprised when officers act in ways that shock the public conscience? #so345
@spyality We shouldn't be surprised. Officers are not overseen or regulated by the people, so we should not be surprised when they do not act for the people. Something like the Camden experiment and really looking into who we let police our cities and how we let them do it, is one of the major ways to increase not only public safety, but integration with public systems. If we want to trust our systems, we must actually work towards changing them. #so345
