Got myself an IcyBox RAID1 enclosure and, well, so-much-faster with two 3.5" HDDs…

I remember a while ago, it was known in enterprise storage circles that at least one vendor's drive firmware did that intentionally. The day I found an empty caddy at a spare desk, i chuckled because that meant someone had walked off with a drive and was sorely disappointed when they put it in their machine at home.

@b that could well be the case, it is also unfair that the two disks I'm using for my IcyBox are HGST "Helium" DCs… but, having said this, if they sell their disks turning off the cache, that is not really impressive. Especially their RAID1 "rugged" should do better - I had an older version which was much faster (2TB+2TB), this is a 4TB+4TB and … meh.
