Tallest historic water towers of Scotland

Scotland has a remarkably small number of water towers for a country of 5.5 million residents. Most appear to be centered in and around Glasgow.

According to several AI resources, the limited number of water towers is in part due to Scotland’s hilly/mountainous terrain which allows for gravity flow of water from reservoirs and is also due to its wet climate constantly replenishing those same reservoirs. In some places, underground storage is used as well.

The three tallest historic water towers in Scotland are all located at current and former hospital sites in Glasgow. Meanwhile brutalist designs appear to be the most common architectural style in the mid-20th century.

Peace!
