shituationistThere's really no way around it, the federal government has to be massively down-sized. There's no New Deal 2 coming, no redux of the Radical Republican amendments to the Constitution (which only came about because the reactionary southern states were militarily occupied), no new Civil Rights Acts on the horizon. On the net, the federal government is the most evil institution in American society: Indian removal, fugitive slave laws, imperialist war, the FBI as an instrument of class war. The whole structure is rotten.
Paul Rietschka@shituationist If the American left wasn't just a joke they'd be aggressively pushing for more state capacity/service delivery in states they control while aggressively trying to destroy the federal government in every way.
A castrated federal government really is the only way out of this. And that means allying with the libertarian right...which, I mean, fine. If we can massively downsize the military, limit the reach of the Scotus, and eliminate tax transfers to red states it's all worth it.
