Hi @siracusa,

I’m lot sure where to send ASK ATP, so I’ll just ask here:

Any ideas why the new MacBook Neo supports Apple Intelligence?

When Apple announced AI, it required 16GB of RAM.

We all cheered as it meant Apple finally bumped all the base models from 8GB to 16GB as standard.

But now here we are almost two years later and the new Neo only has 8GB of RAM for macOS but supports Apple Intelligence!

I haven’t heard anyone talks about this!

#apple #macbookneo

@alexcounsell @siracusa no Apple intellegence was designed for 8GB devices aka iPhones

@jameshjacks0njr @siracusa sure, but am when Apple Intelligence was announced for Macs, they were saying you needed 16GB of RAM to run it smoothly and all Macs got upgraded specs to 16GB.

I get the iPhones didn’t need 16GB and the Neo has an iPhone chip, but it’s running macOS.

So does Apple AI now run fine on macOS with 8GB RAM?

I’m guessing the AI stuff in Xcode still won’t run?

@alexcounsell @siracusa oh i was just going by the official list on their site. Seems A17 pro and higher, and they list the M1 MacBook Air which was on the list from day 1 and that has 8GB ram.

@jameshjacks0njr @siracusa you are indeed correct.

I had to look it up as well.

My memory of the launch was that finally all Macs shipped with 16GB of RAM for Apple Intelligence.

Which clearly wasn’t the case!

Seems 16GB was suggested for the best experience.

And some features still do require 16GB.

I guess at the time the new Apple Intelligence was the big feature, but here we 2 years later nearly and it’s all but forgotten!

@alexcounsell @siracusa the AI stuff most people will use the average person buying a neo is genmoji and a few other things apple dosent consider just LLM’s as AI the neo will run the cute fun stuff teens want on the neo.
