What is happening here? It's lovely but I don't what I'm looking at!
@ewen ツ ツ
I'm glad you think it's lovely and what is happening here... ? Abstraction ツ
It started with a background of stone texture, added waves of fractal distortion - on top: a curved tree with bare roots, scattered white leaves & a last swirl of fractal pulls in a small circle.
The meaning of the image is in line with what I usually create: abstract or semi-abstract images around nature, trees, the state of our planet, the tensions of climate change... hope this answers your question? ツ
@humanum

Would I be correct in calling it digital art, with a series of processes layered over each other?

Or is there a photo amongst the processes too?

@ewen Yes, absolutely, this is digital art. I use Krita [https://krita.org/en/] for my artwork + its wonderful watercolour brushes.

I do sometimes use photographs as part of my work, but not for this one. Most of my posts on masterton.art are my artwork ~ I decided to join the #MonochromeMarch to both explore black and white art pieces as well as post some photos. I'm not a professional photographer, but I do enjoy photography. And the #MonochromeMarch stated that both would be allowed. ツ

Digital Painting. Creative Freedom.

Krita is a professional FREE and open source painting program. It is made by artists that want to see affordable art tools for everyone.

Sometimes it's difficult to see the line between digital art and photography. One fella here does a lot of algorithm generated stuff and it's very crisp and feels so digital. That clarity is useful when interpreting a work of art.

My grandad and dad were both oil painters. The crackly globs of paint give a texture and depth to a scene that changes how you interpret the art. Or imagine the softness and translucence of water-colours?

The medium is important and changes the character of the art.

Anywaaaaaaay I kinda went on a long walk there sorry! Guess this was a way of saying, it's good to hold onto the medium itself, not hide it?

@ewen Oh I agree entirely ~ the medium brings a lot to any piece in itself. This is the reason why I add plenty of hashtags to my work to highlight both the watercolour for example and the app used to give context to my work.

And you reminded me - I also usually add this into my alt text. I've just edited that as I forgot to add this detail for this one ~ when I mix photography with digital, I tend to label it as mixed media + Mention the photo and the digital technique.

@humanum

I think maybe I am more used to seeing your watercolours? I say maybe, I have been very distracted lately and not fully paying attention to what happening online.

It is confusing sometimes when a particular person posts across different lanes :)

@ewen Yeah, I know what you mean ツ

I do usually only post my artwork, which only rarely features photographic elements. But as I love BlackAndWhite + the idea of #MonochromeMarch sounded so appealing, I fancied joining in ツ

To be honest, I had not expected to enjoy it as much as I do or to be posting that much either. A new mobile + new camera to play with resulted in me posting possibly a little bit too much recently. ツ

Rest assured, I'll be resuming my usual postings soon ツ

@humanum

I'm not good at staying in my box either :)
