"Time and again, we collectively fall back on the State as the most obvious and obviously powerful force to deal with crisis, be it social and economic inequality, crime, a geopolitical threat, or a pandemic - and we settle for the State's version of a resolution, even though we know the problem isn't solved." - from The Operating System by Eric Laursen.
I point out this, from page 28 of the book, because it gives us a better idea of how so many of those who want state socialism may have been sadly so easily seduced by rhetoric around a state "resolution" to the Covid-19 pandemic, which in fact continues to this day, despite politicians hooked on a global economic system constantly suggesting otherwise. It's why I wrote Recovering from Shock: Antifascist Struggle in an Ongoing Pandemic, which was turned into a zine, added to the Anarchist Library, and is becoming the basis for an upcoming documentary.
