so uh
we rescued a set of 4K movie film scanners

does anyone need a set of 4K movie film scanners

if you have a need for a cinema film scanner (or can give it a good home!), and can arrange to have it transported from the Seattle area, message me on fedi or e-mail me at [email protected]

yes they're Spirit 2Ks
i believe both of them have the 4K upgrade things

we also got this prism cover off of an old ITK yfront machine, which was already missing nearly all of its internals

it's not useful but it certainly looks cool

here's what was behind a panel behind the yfront panel

with cinema film scanners, you can:

digitize some archival footage!
admire them!
fill your jellyfin library with filmrips!

@alyx if you're seriously just looking to unload them, lets talk. I'll be happy to figure out logistics to get one or both of them to our facility in GA, and figure out how to use them. I can't pay what they cost, but I can pay something.

We don't use scanners when we're archiving film right now because I can't afford one, but I have a number of legitimately one of a kind films (usually camera negatives from kinoscopes, or other TV related stuff) and dozens of less rare but only available in potato quality films I would adore the opportunity to properly digitize.

@ajroach42 we're not looking to sell them, just re-home them to somewhere that can use them! we rescued them for just the cost of a liftgate rental and aren't looking to make a profit flipping these

we were told that both work, but from poking around inside only one of them currently has a lamp module in it

I think this is realistically a one works with one for spare parts scenario

@alyx alright, that's good for me. We'll figure out logistics on this end and be in touch?
@ajroach42 @alyx This is an excellent example of social media working. May the scanners arrive soon, ready to help digitize some film! 👍
