Had a minor shopping task yesterday and the result was far from what I thought it would be.
A paint/paste roller with a geared-extendable pole: you hold the middle, pull top end, and the other end extends out.
A lot like a Babylon5 Ranger's fighting-staff or Darth Maul's lightsabre.
