Genesis - Genesis

This starts off strong with the eerie Mama, although it feels like it belongs on a Collins solo LP... as do a few more of the tracks here.

At this point, Genesis has really become a pop band, with a few "proggier" tracks popping up here and there (especially towards the end). I think this LP was probably their biggest selling one, and may be the peak of their post-prog period.

@dnanian maybe the peak was a little later, as a concert-goer in the UK the Invisible Touch tour seemed bigger (4 dates at Wembley stadium) than the Mama tour I saw at the NEC in Birmingham.

I like all of the Genesis catalog, even some bits of From Genesis to Revelation and Calling all Stations. I appreciate the craft of being able to turn out concise pop songs as well as double concept albums. Though my preference is for instrumental music, so I tend to prefer the less wordy post-Gabriel work.

In my opinion, maybe the best album is Seconds Out because it’s a nice retrospective of the Gabriel era and looks forward to progressing to something poppier.
