Just a little one and a half hour walk nearby before it was supposed to be raining (and rugby starts).
It was a nice walk and good to be out. Strangely, my old GPS device refused to get a location despite having lots of satellites. Just 10min before coming back (after a couple of restarts and taking the batteries out and back in) it worked.
Fortunately, I only had it with me to test if my heart rate monitor also connects to it.
@hikingdude I wonder if constantly moving and walking around hills that block half the sky makes it take longer.
There's an awful lot I don't know about GPS.

I'm curious if you also used a navigation app on your phone and how fast the response time was on that.
Yes, very strange. The longest I’ve had to wait for a gps fix (on my phone) is about one minute and that was in a heavily wooded valley between mountain ridges.
@TimKStanton @hikingdude @ericphelps It typically will take about 20 minutes to download the almanac etc from the satellites due to slow transmission speed. This assumes the user's device is stationary and has a decent view of the sky. The GPS device will need a fresh copy of the almanac data after a certain number of days or after being moved a certain distance.
I used to do some experimenting with this stuff back in the day but that was years ago and I forget the approximate numbers we talked about.
