Picking Factorio back up for the first time in years, in preparation for the upcoming expansion. I'd never seen the vignettes on the title screen before — what a delightful little feature!

I finally started a new playthrough of Factorio, with Space Age enabled — I think my first fresh start in maybe 6 years. I love the progressive disclosure; they don't even tell you there are other planets until you're dozens of hours into building on your first
I'm surprised it took this long, tbh
From this point on, I have absolutely no clue how to play the game. It's all uncharted. New items, new UIs, new mechanics. I'm a little overwhelmed…
I feel like I may have made a grave mistake…

Somehow I pulled it back. Really cool that the different planets in Factorio do give you that 'challenge mode' or 'survival island' kinda feel.

…is what I thought I was about to post. Until I realized that my spaceship no longer existed, and had silently been eaten while I wasn't paying attention.

I guess now I have to slowly build and launch another from scratch 🤡

It took 20 hours of gameplay on this one barren rock to build a spaceship capable of taking me home. Multi-planet Factorio is no joke, holy shit. Really did feel like a survival island. The next time I go planet-hopping, I'll be more prepared.

The one thing you can do is remote-control your drones on other planets, so I was forced into setting up all the automation steps on the starter world so I could actually build every little thing remotely. I like how this expansion redid the tech tree

I have put 72 hours into this Factorio playthrough, and only visited one of the four additional planets. I have no idea how long a full playthrough will take me, but it's a looong game now

@stroughtonsmith I played through it after the expansion came out with two friends, and with biters and pollution turned off, and it still absorbed a couple months of our evenings.

So fun though.

@stroughtonsmith Just... don't go to Gleba next.
@stroughtonsmith This is where you start looking for a bigger island. Good luck!
@stroughtonsmith oof. Fulgora is rough first planet to land.
@stroughtonsmith there’s a lot of learning curve, but it’s a blast! (Heh. Literally.)

@stroughtonsmith The hardest part for me at that point was learning to embrace the sushi belt, and learning belt-monitoring circuits.

I haven’t yet landed on another planet in my “current” (paused-for-1-year) run.

@stroughtonsmith say goodbye to the next 100 hours. Hands down my favourite game, it seems like it tickles the same part of my brain that solving problems with programming does.
@stroughtonsmith I’ve installed Timberborn again this weekend and just can’t close it.
