Saturday at #SpielViel started with #LordOfTheRingsDuel, a nice evolution of 7 Wonders Duel with the same crunchy decisions built in. I enjoyed it (especially the region board is a great addition), and the art is beautiful.
@drbillbongo What do you like so much about region board? It just didn't click with me at all. I think the Nazgûl pursuit mechanic is nice—which, for me, is the only aspect I find more interesting than in 7 Wonders. I also find the artwork creepy. Of course, that's a matter of taste. 😉
@azrael2k I like the area control mechanism and I enjoyed moving my troops around. The pursuit was nice (and thematic) but we didn't use it much. I agree the character artwork is a bit weird but I really like the art style and the colours. I own the original 7 Wonders Duel (with Pantheon) though & wouldn't get this one.
@drbillbongo Thanks for your impressions. 😀

@azrael2k It's always interesting to see how tastes differ! My friends didn't like Worms, but I had a lot of fun. 😄

Incidentally, what would you have liked better with regards to the regions?

@drbillbongo In our group, the regions were completely secondary. I found the tug-of-war over the military points in 7 Wonders far more enjoyable, because it fits much better into the game for me. And it’s precisely these differing tastes that make board gaming so great for me. What I find absolutely boring, others love—and vice versa.
@azrael2k I like to say that the compromises we make to have an enjoyable time playing games together are the best thing! 😊
