The Guardian posted this comment yesterday: Wealthy UK nationals fleeing war in the Gulf are seeking sanctuary in countries such as Ireland and France to avoid hefty tax bills back home. I have an American friend who has lived in the UK for many years. She has to pay tax on her earnings here and has to pay tax in the US on her earnings here too.
@Christo_459 @RichardJMurphy It's more of a nuisance than anything, unless her tax rate in the USA is higher than in the UK (and it would be only the federal rate, not any state tax). The US-UK tax treaty is intended to avoid any double taxation.
