Kumarahou flower buds emerging now. An important Maori rongoa health and wellness plant, especially as a tea for bronchitis and congestion. The flowers were alsio mixed with water to make "gumdiggers soap". It works but best to leave the flowers to seed and use ordinary soap these days. A wonderful plant that thrives on dry banks. #plants #rongoa #health
@Iveyline My grandpa made tea from this plant. He boiled it with water then strained it. It stunk while cooking and Granny complained loudly.
@CarolynStirling It can be a bit bitter. We add a bit of honey. It really helps congestion.
@Iveyline @CarolynStirling use just the flower buds or also the leaves?
@sumisu3 @CarolynStirling The gum diggers used the flowers as "soap. The leaves are used to make a tea to treat congestion related disorders.
