For those of you who might read the fiction I write - and those of you who just follow me in general:

Is posting an entire episode of fiction here on Mastodon something that you find helpful, or annoying? Is an offsite link to a site more geared toward longform text better? Is seeing a fiction update here annoying?

Just trying to gauge if it's something that just disrupts, rather than enriches.

Thanks much.

@Phorm Helpful, useful, and thankful!

@Phorm It turns doomscrolling into bloomscrolling. I like it.

Reading Mastodon feels to me like reading newspaper columns, so reading your stories here feels like stumbling upon a serialized story episode in the daily tribune: a very pleasant surprise every time.

An offsite link helps, but the link shouldn't substitute for the episode you tell here. At the story's end, it's a gentle hand offering to pull us out of here and into a storyteller genie's bottle for more, if you will.

@arielmt

I hadn't considered that it could brighten anyone's scrolling experience at all! The point is well made. I suppose it DOES break up the timeline a little.

Thank you for that very kind comparison, re: serialized stories in the paper, too. I very much appreciate that.

And I promise not to pull everyone into the bottle... TOO much <3

@Phorm neutral! I read it on the blog, but the foldy thing means it wasn't, like, a huge boatanchor flopping around my timeline

@Garudina

By 'foldy thing', do you mean the Content Warning collapse?

Either way, thank you much. Particularly for reading <3

@Phorm Yeah! I didn't go back to look, it just felt like an LJ fold.

@Garudina

That's pretty much exactly what it is, for sure. I just wanted to be sure that's what you meant.

Thank you. I do appreciate it.

@Phorm I like having the option of both. I tend to use the offsite link more often than reading it here, but that's mostly due to being able to read it better when it's not confined to a thin column and I can use my whole screenwidth on the PC, *but* it's very much readable when using Mastodon on my phone so using it here is preferred just so I don't have to switch to the browser =B

@Auric

Dreamwidth is a LOT less accessible on mobile, I'll admit. It allows proper formatting, but it's not nearly as easy to read as Masto on a phone.

Your point about not being confined to a thin column is also very well made <3

I think I'll keep it in both locations.

Thank you so for reading, too, friend. I very much appreciate it.

@Phorm

Both?

@StormyDragon

I think I'll keep doing both, yeah. Thank you <3

@Phorm I don't tend to stop in the middle of my feed to read something, but if you had a link I'd probably be more likely to open that in a new tab and circle back to it later. That said there's nothing disruptive about the post itself, like I've seen way more shitposts and memes I don't care about than the occasional story, you're really not putting a dent into the noise even if it was annoying(which it is not)

@Lilium_Mortem

Admittedly, I DO provide offsite links with every update - but I suppose burying it behind a CW is obscuring that.

Thanks much for your input on this - and your reassurance, as well. I suppose it is kinda akin to some of the larger infodumps and/or shitposts!

Much appreciated, friend.

@Phorm

I find them a delightful digression, and that's uncommon for ADD. Please keep posting! (If you choose to link to an off-site host, I can work with that too.)

@Momentrabbit

I think I'm going to keep posting in both places for now, because everyone's making a very good case for here, and the offsite linking.

Thank you, also, for those very kind words <3 That's deeply appreciated.

@Phorm an offsite link is probably better suited but i'm also far more likely to read it if i don't have to click through to a different site. it's so enrichment and as long as i can collapse the post it's not disruptive at all.

@JillieDaw

I do tend to include an offsite link, but it is admittedly buried when I do. Perhaps it's best to find a way to make that a little more prominent.

That being said, I do VERY MUCH agree with your point about it being easy to read here. And that it fits the flow a bit more.

So long as the CW collapse makes it bearable on the timeline, I keep it up here.

Thank you so for your input on this, friend. It's much appreciated.
