I'm thinking about my options moving away from Spotify. What's the situation with streaming services now? Which ones have good Linux clients? Which ones have API that can be used to implement third party clients?

@anzah Apple Music has a good Linux client called Cider, however the client is payed and is an Electron app

Youtube Music has many good Android clients so they may have good Linux clients.. You can access it for free and the clients will block ads

@paidlowered good points. Electron seems to be bit of necessity these days.

I kind of miss Amaroks dynamic playlist creation. These days it would probably though to tap into streaming services algorithms somehow for recommendations.

Anyway still I'm curious still what's out there. So keep suggestions coming, even bad ones can be informative.

@anzah I mean, Amarok is still here... As long as you support the artist directly you should be able to use Soulseek to just download the files

@paidlowered Amarok used to have somewhat working Spotify plugin, but I don't know what't the plugin situation right now.

I'm not sure if something like Soulseek would be officially sanctioned, but at least Bandcamp offers DRM free downloads.

@anzah Maybe try strawberry player? It has a Spotify plugin I think
