Do you celebrate March 14 as Pi Day?

@evan Fun story, 3 years back I was runner up to be "Pi" in the big Pi Day celebrations here in Markham. Some local council member used their political leverage to get it for their kid instead and it's put me off celebrating ever since. Sure I still go to the parade and support the pizza and baked good sales, but it just all feels like a sham now. Even the Pi costume and the mini cheesecakes they throw at us just don't have the same heft as they used to. #NotMyPiDay

("celebrate"?)

@jamie @evan no but it still tickles me a little 😊
@jamie this is a good story
@evan in all seriousness though I demand photographic proof from those who “celebrate”. I need to see party hats and blowers, balloons, rented bouncy castles and clowns, etc. I do not subscribe to the idea that ordering a pizza and having some lemon meringue for dessert constitutes “celebration”. That’s just a dressed-up Tuesday night in my books.

@jamie Inversely, some may be jealous that your Tuesday nights apparently amount to a celebration every week.

Certainly the luxury of being able to order food amounts to a serious celebration for some.
@evan

@jamie people celebrate how they celebrate.
@evan More recognize than celebrate although we are ordering pizza today. I do have friends who go all out and have a big get together with many, many, many pies.
@evan Yes, but it’s an ongoing exercise in trying to be a person who prioritizes having fun, over being a person who grins their teeth at the MM/DD date format.
@evan Thank you for this poll
@penryu welcome to my oll. Notice there is no "p" in it. Let's keep it that way.
@evan Yes, but this year I forgot and I don't really have pie ingredients.
@evan Having pizza (pie) tonight with a pie to be named later for dessert. Hoping to post in about 90 minutes to really celebrate. #PiDay
@evan What I celebrate is any excuse to eat pie
@jimfl I mean, who wouldn't?
@evan Mostly to point out tau > pi
@evan No, because in the rest of the world the month comes after the day. I know there is no 31 April, but still, celebrating it on 14/3 would feel weird.
@evan Yes, but ... 22/7 is a better approximation, and month-first dates are not common worldwide.

@evan I celebrate it 31.4.

No wait.

@evan Yes, but the pie should be eaten at 1:59:26. PM, 'cause I ain't getting up that early.
@evan
We write the date as 14.3. so it looks weird to connect it to π.
@evan but we're not like those weirdos celebrating tau day on 6.28

@evan

I voted yes because I do celebrate; but I consider March 14 to be Lesser Pi Day. July 22 is Greater Pi Day, since 22/7 approximates pi to three decimal places better than 3.14 does.

@evan Yes, when the Fediverse points it out.

I’m bad with calendar dates 😆

@evan No, but I do recognise it as tau/2 day.
@evan
Europeans celebrate Pi Day on the 3rd day of Quattuordecember.
@jargoggles in the Mayan Long Count 3.14.15.9.3 is August 27, 1639 BCE
@jargoggles unfortunately the civilizations that used this calendar wouldn't emerge for another 1500 years. 🫤 But I bet they made great pies.
@evan No, I'm not American and I know how to pronounce π.
