Generally I prefer going to my small local supermarket chain but I do occasionally go to the new Albert hein for certain products that my small chain doesn't have.

Something I'm genuinely so curious about is: wtf did they do on their self checkout point of sale terminal that makes the transactions go so fast.
The time between pressing on the touch screen to activate the payment and then getting the payment confirmation and your receipt it's so incredibly fast, I've never seen anything like it

@arichtman @thibaultmol Wouldn't be the first time they used Blockchain. A few years ago they did a thing where you could track the history of your eggs. Basically everything from when the chicken was born, to where it was packaged and when it was delivered to the distribution center. Obviously nothing of that is still in use now.

@thibaultmol these might very well be an Optimistic Update: the system knows it’s you, recognises that you’re using your regular bank card and you have an excellent history of payments? No need to wait for the confirmation from the bank, it will most probably arrive within a couple of seconds. So let’s print your receipt now. If ever there was a issue with the bank they will retry a couple of minutes later or tonight

@matthiou huh!.... Interesting.
I feel like that doesn't explain why it doesn't immediately start printing the receipt when the payment request is sent to the terminal.

Maybe they're getting some kind of diagnostic data from the terminal and yeah, the moment they get the 'put card on reader' line, they assume it went fine. Kinda wanna test it now xdd
