I'm really kinda annoyed that there's not good cross-country high-speed rail where I could get from here to the west coast and just enjoy the ride for a couple of days, catch up on writing or my reading backlog or something

But, knowing how bad rail is here, it's not worth trying to do.

Flying is faster, but I would like to have the option to do the trip in a more relaxed fashion.

Meh.

@Stormgren Recently used Amtrak to travel btw Seattle and Portland. SEA to PDX wasn't bad. But there had been a delay on the return trip due to issues on the California leg coming back north which put us back into SEA several hours later than anticipated. I'd consider doing that again, but it's definitely not French TGV level travel, let alone Japanese or Chinese High Speed Rail. And you have to buffer in a day for potential delays, which we did before flying back to DTW.

@Stormgren yeah. it’d be 4d instead of 2d from Chicago. I’m considering it for a trip home.
