To be clear, until the police called, I really did consider this "over".

@revk Yes, do it.
No, seriously, don't do it. If anything else happens you'll probably have the police's sympathy at the moment. If you wind the situation up in any way, however rightfully, that'll be gone.
@edavies ok but do I need police “sympathy”? What matters is crime. Is that poster in any way a crime?
But can I do a more de-escalating poster maybe?
@penguin42 @revk Indeed.
It'll also influence their decision on whether to do anything about the other bloke. And maybe also their keenness to deal with your other vandalism problem.
Logically it shouldn't, but in the real world…
You're clearly not getting anywhere in the current situation and any escalation on your part (which *any* poster would be seen as) makes your chances worse so unless you want a fight or just want to entertain us and passers by (not an unworthy cause 😀) dropping the matter for now seems like the best bet.
The only other options I can see are a private prosecution or civil action which seem disproportionate.
@edavies @penguin42 Hence considering a poster which explicitly apologises.

His involvement of the police is what is escalating this...
@penguin42 @edavies Well a proper public apology should be OK?
And not replying was where we were at, all done and dusted, then he involved the police. Not me...
