So my mail server migration to an EU based mail provider went more or less as expected 🤕

I asked on Mastodon and most answers pointed me to the Berlin-based mailbox.org

I've been trying for a week to move my mail to them but the settings page said more or less, we can't tell you how to migrate to our service - figure it out yourself 🤷🏽‍♂️

So, today I took 20min and moved to a non-EU based mail service in 🇨🇭 where everything was streamlined and clear.

@icanzilb when I migrated some years ago they had a service where they would migrate your mails for 1-2€ per account (from other providers).
Seems they now only support migration via Thunderbird https://kb.mailbox.org/en/private/account/migrate-from-gmail/

Do you want to move completely from Gmail to mailbox?

@icanzilb no, it's still there.
In settings pretty much at the bottom.
@jandamm I agree that's there, but I got stuck on redirecting the domain, not moving the messages 🫠

@icanzilb have you followed this guide?

https://kb.mailbox.org/en/private/custom-domains/using-emails-with-a-custom-domain/

I found their guides hard to find but not too hard to understand.

@jandamm yup, that's it :) maybe I'm not clever enough to follow it, because I was stuck on this page for days and when I gave up and followed migadu's guide it took about 20 min to completely migrate
