[question] help me pick a game - Lemmy.zip

Hey everyone! I just got laid off a few weeks ago, applying for jobs and doing a little Linux/networking personal development in my spare time. My wife is leaving today for a week for work, so I’m trying to pick a game out of my backlog while I’ve got some alone time! Not really feeling a genre or setting, open to almost anything right now, but it needs to be a game I own that will consume me for a week! Options: - NieR:Automata (Steam Deck) - ANIMAL WELL (Steam Deck) - LUNAR Remastered Collection (Steam Deck) * specifically Lunar 1, I did start it on a flight recently - Cyberpunk 2077 (PS5) - DRAGON BALL Z KAKAROT (PS5) - Ni No Kuni (1 & 2) (PS4) - Armored Core 6 (PS5) * I got about half way and need to go back to it I’ll probably play some Battlefield 6 (MP/RedSec) for mindless gaming. Jump back into some Arc Raiders which I fell off recently. Also learning to play Dwarf Fortress, but that might be on the back burner. Might also give Project Zomboid another try. Games I’m going to avoid, No Man’s Sky, RimWorld and Civilization V… fun games, but they’ll consume me more than I’d like lol What are everyone’s thoughts?

Give Cyberpunk 2077 a try. I thought it was amazing. I may have cried at the ending…

I’ve played through a few different ways. I’ve only found one ending that sank in and to me personally it feels like the true ending

Where you take the fully selfish route and have to get your cybernetics fully removed and go to a life of being a civilian

I can vouch for Ni no Kuni II, it’s absolutely delightful. I’d avoid endgame DLC though because they’re not good at all.
Ni no kuni 1 is exceptional, and the sequel is pretty good
I’ve only played one and I recommend it: NieR:Automata. If you don’t choose that one, you can watch the series.
Excellent options. I can say for sure that neir is a great game and it can be short if you only do one playthrough. I did play on my steamdeck as well. Ni no kuni is fantastic but I still haven’t beat it. You really can’t go wrong.

One playthrough in Nier: Automata is about 55 hours. The game subdivides itself into five chapters and gives each one a lettered ending. Stopping at the first ending is akin to stopping the bible at Deuteronomy and saying “neat, I got the whole story.”

Each further chapter is dramatically different than the one that came before.

Yeah, but as a person playing a game, that is a good place to stop and assess whether to restart/continue.
Cyberpunk 2077 is my rec. Great game and all the launch stuff has been fixed now.
Currently playing Esoteric Ebb: I’m blown away. Best d&d game since Baldur’s Gate, best story game since disco Elysium
Sorry to say that I don’t have much of a preference unless you’re in a specific mood. They’re all good games but do different things narratively and I dont know if gameplay or cut scenes make you want tk really dig into it more.
The only one of those that I’ve tried is cyberpunk, but besides being a really good and fun game for what you’re looking for, I want to add that I found it easy to get off or back on, which ypu might want if you’re looking for a job and might need to jump out of your seat for some opportunity.
