Instead of this number, I wish we used something more comprehensive, like total hours worked, average income/wage and labour participation rate.

The current metric only counts those looking for work.

Rooommate of mine work in a theatre. She had her hours cut to a single shift a week because they just hired sixteen new people.

Reductions of hours like that should be criminal, how the hell is she expected to pay rent?

My kid has a part time job and is looking for another, but everything she can find wants you to be available for any shift at any time. All while not offering more than part time shifts with no guaranteed hours.
