@petersuber A shocker for those who run entirely on volunteer labor.

I know what you're saying. On the other side, #arXiv has 27 full-time staffers and a budget of $6 million/year.
@petersuber But I do not understand why you would need that many people.
It's the Scale of operations. We have on the order of 0.0001 employees per new annual submissions and 0.00001 employees per overall published articles.

@petersuber
So why does the CEO need to receive $300k (1/20 of the entire budget)!? On a non-profit on top?

Everyone else gonna get $210k per year? No, of course not! That’d be rediculous! They are just staff! We need to keep the servers running too!

But the CEO... Now that’s who really matters, amiright?
@czimm_economist

@petersuber huh. is there some more information on that - reasoning for it, future structure and such? can't say that change of this type doesn't make me nervous.
@petersuber That is still within the USA, so no progress really, is it?
@petersuber I seriously worry that this will be an opportunity for the big publishers to “indirectly” capture another “open infrastructure” node. However much I want to love this evolution, I can’t keep myself from smelling a rat. I will be thrilled to be shown I got this all wrong.
@petersuber $300k, eh? Time to move on, methinks
