Reviews keep saying the MacBook Neo puts other laptops 'in its price range' to shame, but it very clearly puts PC laptops four times its price to shame. And that's before accounting for the RAMpocalypse which is going to clip the PC market's wings this year. There's a potential future where Apple becomes the largest consumer PC manufacturer by market share, effectively overnight, depending on how this plays out. A perfectly-timed kill shot for an industry in turmoil
@stroughtonsmith I'd say good riddance, but Apple corporate has always given me the willies, and them in a dominant market share would be... interesting.
@stroughtonsmith I feel like this is also a play to increase that services revenue number. More lower priced, storage-capped devices, more semi-required iCloud subscriptions.
@stroughtonsmith Well, if the Mac becomes a growth market again for Apple, maybe they'll start caring a bit more about macOS again? 🤞
@stroughtonsmith I just wonder if all these potential folks will want to use macOS. (I have no clue).
@buck @stroughtonsmith there’s a lot of students out there that have massive fomo on AI tools at the moment. The cohort that were once happy with iPads are now wanting PCs to take advantage of AI coding tools.
@stroughtonsmith In my country the cheapest MacBook Neo is €699. A PC laptop four times its price would be a ~€2,800 computer. So, hmmm, I think you’re getting a bit carried away on how good the Neo is.
@stroughtonsmith Sorry, not a fan of Apple. To me the Neo seems to be more akin to a Chromebook. If it makes other manufacturers step up their game, that would be a great outcome though.
