In the short term, this is not as dangerous as an outright ban on estrogen. If implemented and then combined with other methods of suppressing trans people, it might be far more destructive in the long term.

@cwebber guess we weren't lucky enough to stop at 3 pieces of bad trans related news in the last 48 hours huh
@cwebber I was just telling my partner an hour ago that I wondered if they were going to try and make E a controlled substance

which, basically, this would be
@cwebber Unsurprisingly, looking up a couple of their first citations, they are wildly misstating the conclusions or context of the papers.

(such as, per Getahun et al., 2018, they state the risk for VTE "increases 5.1 fold after two years compared to general male population" and then you look at the paper and it's like oh, it went from 2 cases per 1000 people to around 10 per 1000 people, etc)
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29987313/

(another reference literally states in the abstract that HRT is generally safe; the filing states "Testicular Cancer: Annual incidence calculated at 26.5 times higher than general population estimates in one case series", which is something the paper says, yes, but consider that out of their samples only 4 patients had any cancer growth,
and that these were samples obtained through orchiectomies) https://doi.org/10.5858/arpa.2024-0218-OA

I don't have time/energy/patience to walk through more and I'm not enough of an expert in these calculations to really dig down and say whether any of these claims are outright false, but they're clearly misleading and biased. Which, no fucking surprise.

@cwebber It's also worth pointing out that they reference "The recent peer-reviewed umbrella review from the Department of Health and Human Services" as being in support of their claims here.

That particular report, which seemed to be three or four hundred pages of LLM slop, with fake citations, that went against every study that has been done, that somehow HHS managed to produce in like, a week or two?

YEAH

anyway fuck generative AI
@aud @cwebber as if i needed any more reasons to be fucking pissed about LLMs
