Like how can anyone tell me capitalism makes sense when you can look me dead in the eye and say "oil prices fell yesterday because the president said the war he started, which Iran is only just now prosecuting back, is over even though we all know it's not over - but they rose today because, predictably war did not end."

Reminds me, I'm still processing a hedge fund guy telling me last summer that "we [and HFT firms] are essentially a public benefit because we provide liquidity"

The premise sounds trivial, but really bears so much load: it really states that we've had to build a humongous distributed particle system simulator which mostly doesn't even compute but copies numbers around in an _insane_ bandwidth in order to make the real world behave _kind of_ like dreamt up by economists
