Breaking from vacation because this is huge/👀.

Per Burgess Everett on Bluesky: Sen. Ron Wyden says there's secret classified info in 702 surveillance program about Americans' privacy.

Americans "are going to be stunned that it took so long and that Congress has been debating this authority with insufficient information."

FAA 702 already allows warrantless surveillance of Americans' comms. Can't think how this extends. Collection of wholly domestic communications?

🟡 PM Semafor Washington, DC: Threat level | Semafor

In this afternoon’s edition: The Trump administration is split on how to communicate potential Iran-linked domestic threats.

Wyden can't say because the issue is classified. But given the wording, I *suspect* reading this statement that this is probably a very long-running interpretation of how U.S. intel claims it can access or view Americans' data (probably contents of communications) under an existing 702 program.

There are lots of programs that operate under 702 rules. Could be related to anything from corporate partnerships with tech giants, all the way to surveillance of remote font libraries.
