Counterpoint: typing a "proper" ellipsis is a pain, and three consecutive periods is a perfectly acceptable alternative in everyday discourse.

On my computer, I'd have to bring up the character selection app and then search for ellipsis. It is easier on the phone, though, where a long press brings up a list of options.
