@levinej98 that's just how professional hockey has worked for a long time; it doesn't matter where the person's from, it's what team drafted, traded for, or signed them.

@levinej98 there's probably a disproportionate number of Canadian players who end up on American teams, though. and of course there are players from overseas. it really hasn't been about playing for your local team for a while. we only have a local Winnipeg player because Toews signed with us after being off for a few years with long covid.
@levinej98 and of course the places where American players are from are geographically closer to us than many parts of Canada. it's geographically closer to home for a player from Minnesota or Michigan to play in Winnipeg than if they played for a California or Florida team.
