My wife just received a letter from Viktor #orban and I am curious what he has to say. I bet it has something to do with the elections that he (hopefully) will lose.
I do like the subtle detail that he is, just like his american moonlit silhouette of power, communicating in all caps. Isn't that adorable? 🫠
EDIT: this is better than a hallucination from ChatGPT, so this will be a thread.

Wow! She opened it, and it is worse than I expected. Tomorrow I will translate the whole text.

So, here is the translation. I will add some comments later for extra context.

" Dear fellow citizen,

The reason for my message is that Hungary will be conducting a critical parliamentary election on April 12. I am requesting that you exercise your right to vote.

3/11

[...] We are living in an era of dangers that pose great challenges to the whole Hungarian community, regardless where they live in the Carpathian Basin. The risk of a war that threatens Europe is growing, and it brings severe energy-crisis and the increase in the cost of living. In times like these, Hungarians can only rely on each other.

4/11

[...] Sixteen years ago, we declared that the Hungarian identity is one and indivisible, our destinies are intertwined, and the responsibility for each other is common and inevitable. With this decision, we have formed an alliance with our compatriots who have been torn apart from us. This alliance has been sealed by the extension of the Hungarian citizenship and voting rights.

5/11

[...] Today, the results of this alliance are tangible: schools and churches have been renovated, the Hungarian-language education and culture found renewed strength, religious and civil communities are booming across the Carpathian Basin.

6/11

[...]
No less than the nation's future is at stake in the parliamentary elections this year. Unity is the foundation of our nation's strength, so let's maintain and strengthen it during these challenging times.

It is our shared responsibility to ensure that our children and grandchildren can grow up in peace and security, and as Hungarians in their homeland.

7/11

[...] As prime minister, I strongly encourage you to participate in the collective decision-making process: Take part in the parliamentary elections.

8/11

[...] Hungarian citizens without a Hungarian address may participate in the parliamentary elections by mail, but only if they have a valid registration. Therefore, if you have not already done so, please register. In case you have been registered earlier and already participated in Hungarian elections, your registration is still valid. You have also been informed about this in a letter from the National Election Office.¨

9/11

And it ends with this (not really important, but still, for the sake of completeness :) ):

I am counting on you!

Budapest, 2026 February

Yours sincerely
Viktor Orbán
Prime Minister of Hungary

And the context: The obsession with the Hungarian community in the Carpathian Basin is not just some revisionist dog wistle. The audience is clearly the diaspora living in the neigbouring countries, like Romania, Slovakia, Serbia and Ukraine. As Orbán mentions in his letter, it was one of his greatest political achievement to give voting righst to Hungarians living in these countries.

I just don´t really understand why they are sending the same text to completely different groups.

11/11

One more little detail: My wife never shared this address with #FIDESZ, the party of Orbán (or any other political party or organisation). It seems that the Prime minister's office has access to the list of addresses that Orbán is now using for his election campagne. And this is just normal in a member state of the #EU 🤷‍♂️
@Szipek THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER!
