I am beyond stressed with work/AI stuff and literally have absolutely nobody I can vent to.

I understand that venting is a completely useless exercise. I understand that this is going to accomplish nothing, and will only add negativity to an otherwise very positive social media space.

I need to create an account with no followers so I can just scream into the void.

My whole day is just arguing with GenAI now. And I'm having to ask it to clarify why it made a decision and then fact check it and then ask it to re-evaluate.

My whole brain is just static right now. I am so far beyond burned out that I have never been closer to just turning in my badge and walking out and dealing with the consequences of finding a new job.

The thing is, it's like this everywhere in the field right now. Every engineer I know is spectacularly overworked, on understaffed and underfunded teams, being bombarded with emerging tech every 24 hours, and pivoting multiple times an hour to keep up.

@swiftfoxfire If you can; do your job at your reasonable pace within reasonable hours. If they fire you for that(which to be clear is them failing you, and not you doing anything wrong) you can likely collect unemployment to (greatly) help bridge the gap. Look into unemployment.

I don't like "AI" stuff much at all so I feel you not wanting to even bother with it but then having to :-/

@swiftfoxfire That's 100% been my job for decades. Living in the crucible can be like being at a big rave and you attack it as you can enjoying what you can, but there are plenty who have comfortable pigeonholed gigs where they have 40% work and 60% R&D and training (Or vice versa).
That's never been my path, but I fully get how some thrive there.

Good luck with it all, just know where you fail is simply a reflection on how well the higher ups staff. Not your fault, it's a reflection on them.

@CanidAnubis The field is 100% designed for people like you who are willing to put the work in at night, on weekends, and on PTO. It is not for people like me who want to put their 8 hours in and go home.

I've never had a home lab, have no desire to spend my evenings keeping up with the tech that was announced this morning, and firmly believe that what I do for a living is not the main focus of my life.

People like me shouldn't be allowed to be in tech. Tech is for enthusiasts and people who make it their life's passion.

@swiftfoxfire Hehah... I am too old to worry about all that extra pro bono work. I've been 8 and done for probably 10 years. I'm obviously on call 24/7, but that goes with the gig.

But yeah, enjoy your time off, take your lunch, use your vacation w/o guilt. They need to know when they need to hire someone else.

Maybe there's somewhere else that you can laterally pivot to within the general environment.

@CanidAnubis That's not the wolf I remember :P You were always there at stupid hours, making things work.

I say all of this while sitting here on my work machine and trying to take another chunk out of this project. I'll work until I can't anymore, get some sleep, and do it again tomorrow.

We're massively understaffed for who we are and what we do, but that's normal in government contracting.
