The UK government wants to put all children in special education into mainstream classrooms. Yes, because that will be so good for them. Lets not consider the needs of that child at all.
@fireborn Thank fuck I wasn't educated in the mainstream. There's no way I'd be anything like as able as I am without everything from other blind peers to tactile maps and diagrams and living skills training
@davetaylor2112 @fireborn My understanding is that one thing doesn't exclude the other. For example, I was put into mainstream classes, but the school had an entire department dedicated to people with special needs, and the specialized teacher were always interacting with the rest of the school staff, providing transcriptions and other exchanges.
@clv1 @fireborn Yeah, but they don't have the expertise we had, you still can't really compete on anything like an equal footing in any sport or anything, you're always the different one, or maybe few. Any system done badly has issues, many systems done well can work for a lot of people, but being in a huge mainstream school trying to learn geography would not have worked for me
